According to Deepak Chopra, “Intention is the active partner of attention; it is the way we convert our automatic processes into conscious ones.â€
Well, no offense to Deepak, and as much as I love him, I must disagree with the first part of his definition. I believe intention can at times be a partner of attention, such as when you focus your attention on something in such as way as to manifest a delivery of your intention. If I put enough attention on my studies I obviously have the intention of learning the material, and I will likely be able to learn it since my intention and attention are lined up on the same thing. However, most of the time when I put my attention on something, there is no intention behind it. If I see a movie I am paying attention, but I am not necessarily associating it with any intention. When I go food shopping, it is quite the opposite… my intention is to buy healthy, energizing foods, but my attention is on the goodies in the bakery or the frozen pizza section.
I propose that intention and attraction are the true partners. Whatever I attract into my life is there by my intention to have it there. Not one thing good or bad comes to me without my intention. My intention is really my inviting it; a focused and prolonged inviting it. Setting an intention is a clear focus of thought on that which I want to see/have/do in my life, and to see it manifest means I would have to have held that intention for quite some time without changing my mind. My attention span is not all that long, so if I relied on that to attract what I want in my life, I’d be out of luck!
The reason it’s important to set an intention is because the Law of Attraction is always at work, whether you realize it or not. If you think about being in debt, you will continue to be in debt. Oops! That wasn’t your intention, was it? However, the Law of Attraction says that whatever you think about, if you think about it enough, you bring about. If you are consciously aware of your thoughts, you can think about being wealthy, and keep thinking about being wealthy, and act as if you are extremely wealthy, guess what? The Law of Attraction has no choice but to bring that to you.
That is why setting clear intentions about what you do want is so important, because it helps you to be conscious of your thought patterns and what you are dwelling on. They say the average person has about 60,000 thoughts a day. Actually that is the average woman. (The average man has about 8,000 and one out of three are about sex) If I am consciously aware of my thoughts and where they lead me, I have the choice to keep thinking them… or shift to a better thought, a thought about what I want rather than what is, or what I don’t want. This is truly how you create your life.
It seems hard at first, impossible at times, but if you try this once and see how easy it is to attract to you the exact things you hold in your mind, (good or bad), you will stop trying to get what you desire the old fashioned way, through hard work, sweat and tears.
The old way doesn’t work, didn’t  you notice?
