Money is a Good Thing

Posted on 29 December 2008

Money has always been a touchy issue for may people. Just bring up the topic and people get uncomfortable. They either feel bad for wanting it, or reject it because they are “spiritual” or they focus all their energy on acquiring it that it becomes the purpose of their life. In truth, money is just our medium of exchange. It allows us freedom to do what we want and make ourselves happy.

There is a ridiculous phrase people parrot and I am not sure they even know why they are saying it except that they heard it somewhere before and think it bears repeating. It is Money cant buy happiness. Folks, I am here to tell you that it is not supposed to buy happiness. It is supposed to buy food, clothes, cars, homes, vacations, gifts for people, books to read, tickets to symphonies, etc. The freedom to do so and not worry about survival is what I call happiness. It should make you comfortable enough so you can go after what will make you HAPPY.

Another good one is I would rather have love than money. Whoever said you had to choose? Why would someone even say such a thing? Can you buy food with love? I’d like the name of that store! Money works in the arena it is supposed to work in and there is no reason to choose to be poor so that Love can come along. Believe me, Love comes along just fine to those that have as well as those that have not.

Making money is a good thing! Wallace Wattles (The Science of Getting Rich)  offers a wonderful explanation of why desire for riches is natural and life supportive and is “simply the capacity for larger life seeking fulfillment, to do more, know more, be more, we must have things to use to learn and become.” You help others only by making the most of yourself, not by being as poor as they are.

If you think that there is a finite amount of money, or anything for that matter… then you will either be competitive with others, or you may do the opposite and think you should be satisfied with a modest compensation.  Some people think that if they make a lot of money it will be taking away from others. That’s crap. If they make a lot of money it means they are giving a lot value to others and are being compensated for it.

People should get comfortable with making money and not feel guilty about it, or envious of others who make more. These thoughts limit the flow of money into your own life. Any guilt, shame, envy, greed, or judgment is resistance and anyone entertaining these thoughts will find himself severely limited and have difficulty attracting anything.

Feel good about making money. Invite it in. You want it anyway and you know it. You deserve to be prosperous. It’s your birthright!
